1. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday expressed confidence that Nigeria is resolutely on the road to a new dawn, stressing that the country will no longer be a by-word for corruption.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President said this while commending two security men who returned a handbag filled with valuables forgotten at the Murtala Muhammed Airport by an American returnee.
2. Mr. Sunday Ogunniyi, the Special Assistant on Environmental Services to the Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has resigned his appointment.
Ogunniyi’s resignation letter to the governor tendered through the office of the Secretary to the Kwara State Government did not state the reason behind his decision.
3. Irate youth, yesterday set the Magistrates’ Court in Olru, Imo State on fire.
The Police spokesperson in the state, Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident, said the inferno destroyed all the documents in the court before it was put out.
4. The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi has said it will now pardon Yinka Ayefele because of his appeal and not because he is physically challenged.
According to the governor, being physically challenged doesn’t give anyone the right to break the law, hence his reason to bring down Ayefele’s Music House worth N800m.
5. The Benue State government has reacted to a recent statement credited to Garus Gololo of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association demanding the resignation of Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
The state government wondered why a mere breeders’ association could call for the resignation of the number three man of the nation when it was not a political party.
6. Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party will win the 2019 presidential elections.
Saraki said that the victory of PDP at both federal and state levels would be beneficial to all the members.
7. Senators Isa Misau and Rafiu Ibrahim have said Nigeria will be a better place if the All Progressives Congress devotes more time to solving the nation’s myriad of problems instead of dissipating energy in the quest to pull down the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
They also cautioned the APC against fomenting trouble when the Senate eventually reconvenes because the party would meet its match should it decide to breach the peace.
8. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has warned politicians in the country against violence as preparations for the 2019 general elections heat up.
The monarch, also advised politicians in Osun State against violence as political parties were preparing for the September 22 governorship election in the state.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party has told President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians will not be swayed by his claim that he walked 800 metres to demonstrate his health status and thereby ready for second term in office.
Rather, the party said Nigerians would be looking for a competent and a knowledgeable President, who it said must have the capacity to tackle many problems facing the nation.
10. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday gave President Muhammadu Buhari “24 hours to arrest leaders” of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN over its threat that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki should resign his position or be forced out.
PDP said should Buhari fail to order the arrest of MACBAN leaders and commence their prosecution, Nigerians will hold him responsible for the actions of the group, going forward
